Bug Pic size.
Posted by: TobyC - 05-29-2021, 05:51 PM - Forum: SUM TING WONG - Replies (25)

Pics need to be really small for the forum to accept them, I have to reduce the size of all my pix to post them here. Other forums automatically reduce them to fit the forum requirements.

Bug Posts stacking.

If I post more than once on a page the posts all stack together in a nonsensical way, how can I avoid that other than not posting?

Time for a little change I think.

I think it is time to shave off the Goatee for awhile. It will grow back fast enough when I want it back. I think a clog pruf will do the trick nicely.

  Checking in on the phone

Does anyone use one their phone to check in. Are you using one of the alternate skins? Any tips to make it easier. I ask because some members find it awkward to check in on their phone.

I use the default skin myself with a Iphone 7 plus. It works good for me.

The German Rapide was invented by a man called Scharff in 1894 and when his US Patent expired in 1911 the razor mechanism became very popular and was copied and reproduced by many other Manufacture's including, Henckels, Wester Brothers, Solingen and many others.....

The Rapide was designed to use a Single Wedge Blade...Some of the Rapide variation's will take a Modern SE Blade easier than others. Some of the Rapide Variants have somewhat small and delicate blade stops that will not hold a Modern Blade so easily. The original Wedge Blade that was originally intended for the Rapide are literally Wedged into place and the blade stops only provide a minor and secondary function in securing the wedge blade. My JA Henckels Rapide does accept a Modern Gem blade.

1892 — German Patent for the Rapide safety razor
Patent: DE64903
Invention: Sicherheitsrasirmesser
Filed: Saturday, 19th December 1891
Published: Thursday, 13th October 1892
Inventor: Ernst Scharff
Language: German

So for the 1st shave this morning I started with the Wedge that appeared sharp enough to shave.........wrong. Sharp enough to cut you and FEEL sharp but tuggy to shave with and will need honing to use. I did the right side of my face with the wedge before seeing it wasn't removing whiskers well enough. Easy swap to a Gem blade and the shave was on in earnest. This is an aggressive razor but smooth. Just need respect and a light to no pressure approach but you will be rewarded with an EXTREMELY close shave. I love the look and history of this thing as well as the Henckel branding. Glad to have it in the den. Will do a video on it eventually as I have the goal to use on video each of my vintage razors to document them going forward. Hope all have a splendid day !!

  Penn safety razor
Posted by: kyle3rv - 05-15-2021, 03:45 PM - Forum: Other SE brands. - Replies (16)

So I just picked up a Penn safety razor on a hunch. Well my theory was correct they can in fact securely hold injector blades. I haven't tried a shave yet. The razor can hold the blade with both a more aggressive exposure like in the picture or a much more mild exposure. You just slide the injector blade in and tighten the handle and the handle screw locks it in just like the original blades.

  Occam's SE

Friday May 14, 2021
Razor: Occam's SE
Blade: Feather Super (2)
Brush: Stirling Boar
Soap: Fuzzy Face Monkey Farts
AS 1: Humphrey's Alcoholado Maravilla 70
AS 2: Ethos Fresh Lime
Fragrance: CK One
Consecutive Daily Shaves - # 919

Brought out my Occam because of some talk on DFS about it. Got a great shave with dot 2 plate and a Feather Super. My problem is the shaves don't usually last as long for me and the long ears make a good XTG near impossible on the above the lip region. Still a fun shave with the Monkey Farts which is a cherry/banana bubble gum scent. I just like the name mostly but it is a good soap base. Taking the day off for things around the house that need attention. Have a great day Everyone !!
