RE: SOTD September 2021 - Old Sarge - 09-21-2021

I had an Unmentionable SOTD and used Williams Mug Shave Soap for the first time. I wanted to get some experience with it before tomorrow. I have seen all the coverage of this soap on TOST and when I stumbled across it at our local Ingles grocery store for $1.28 plus tax, I had to pick it up.

I've watched a number of Jayaruh videos where he uses Williams with his "Rub It On" technique. So, I gave it a go and it worked really well! I may have left a little too much water in my badger brush, so I'll adjust tomorrow. My only issue with the Williams is that the lather seems to dissipate pretty quickly, so no dilly-dallying!

In the end I can see why Williams has such a following. It lathered easily and left my face with a good feel. For the price it can't beat it! Finished off with a generous splash of Pinaud Clubman Lime Sec which smells amazing!

Congrats on your first use of Williams. Glad to hear you like the "Rub it on" technique, too. I have my Williams laid out for Williams Wednesday already. It is a great "cheap" soap.

No information with this razor that I have NEVER seen another of. I am told by Jeff (Jmudrick) it is made by Traut and Hine before their Dandy razor but that still doesn't give me a name and neither does the box. The only info on the razor is Patent Nov 14, 1911 and that matches the Patent info found ( Thanks riverrun ) I believe I will dub it the RWNN (Razor With No Name) Have a great Wednesday everyone !

I cannot believe i nearly sold this razor Huh , so glad it didn't go  Heart .
A really slick, shiny lather from the Signature soap and Duke 3, plenty for the 3 passes.
A lovely shave today, when using the 1924 i have to remind myself they need an extra shake to remove the XS water from the head before presenting to the skin otherwise they can have water all over the place.

Stay safe and enjoy your day All

I've never sold a razor, I know I'd just have to replace it. Wink

Williams Wednesday's Shave
[Image: zcws.jpg]

Cold Water Rinse
Williams Mug Soap
SlimGem Silvertip Badger
GEM Damaskeene
Personna GEM SS PTFE
CWR
Pinaud Citrus Musk EDC

The Williams Mug Soap lathered well with SlimGem Silvertip Badger Brush. Two passes and touch ups with the GEM Damaskeene with a Personna GEM SS PTFE gave me a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse I finished off with Pinaud Citrus Musk EDC. Man, this was a great shave. This Damaskeene is awesome. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

I feel a small sense of joy when I see SOTD videos/pictures where folks shave with rare vintage razors. It’s like these razors were taken out of a museum. With Dave in KY  including the patent, it’s even more of a history lesson. Imagine a couple of guys sitting around smoking cigars (Fuzzy fits well in this image) and coming up with such a simple design consisting of only three parts.

It wasn’t long ago that I found my first vintage razor in an antique store. I can still remember the feeling in the hand, a sense of substance/heft…more than just the weight of the razor. I don’t think I get the same feeling when I pick up a modern razor. I leave a couple of vintage razors sitting on my bathroom counter and throughout the day I find myself picking one up and feeling the small sense of joy!

Williams Wednesday!

Pre: Neutrogena Soap Face Wash
Razor: Gem Featherweight (PIF from Dave in KY)
Blade: Gem SS PFTE (PIF from Dave in KY)
Brush: Vulfix 374 Super Badger
Soap: Williams Mug Shave Soap
Post: Osma Alum Block, T.N. Dickinson's Witch Hazel, Aqua Velva, Bulldog Moisturizer

I want to thank Dave in KY for being so generous in sending me a PIF care package. From this package in today's shave I used the Gem Featherweight and a GEM SS PFTE blade.

What was it our Mother's told us after you fell off you bike and scratched you knee? If first you don't succeed, try, try again! I did not have the most successful shave today. There are a number of things that could have contributed; new to Williams soap, new razor, new type of blade, fourth day shaving in a row, and most likely the real reason...I changed my shaving music to Yo-Yo Ma! Big Grin Bottom line, I'm a FNG-SE shaver and there are going to be days like this! I'll get back on the horse tomorrow, albeit with an unmentionable to allow my skin an easier day. The good news is for the first time I was able to shave one complete pass using a SE razor!

Thanks again to Dave for his generosity and kindness!
