They would make a small number of razors and have people test them. I've seen pictures with a line of small boths with a guy at each one shaving. This is the box it came in. Now I see what TobyC was talking about, just having a razor without the top cap being similar to that. I think I've seen Jayaruh in one of his videos shaving with a Damaskeene without the tap cap. I guess this is where you test your skills!

Really not much different than the earlier lather catchers. Pretty much everything before the Jr Bar had pretty much the same amount of blade exposed. The Jr. Bar didn't have a top cap either. But the Bar acted in the same way as a top cap. It is a cool piece of shave history either way. That's right, you nailed it! I can definitely tell a big difference between shaving with the Jr. Bar versus the Stoll Crome Steel. As you said is the same amount of blade exposure as your test outfit. The SCS is my most challenging razor to shave with, even more than the MMOC. Not much to the bar on the Jr. Bar, but it really makes a difference and make for an incredibly smooth shave. RE: Micromatic Monday - GAW9576 - 11-02-2021 Old Sarge the early Lather catchers are some of my favorite razors and I also love my MMOC. They are super efficient razors and when I get the super light touch and angle right they give me some of the best shaves. I also love razors like the Featherweight Deluxe that to me are much more forging when I don't get the light touch and angle perfect. However the Featherweight and similarly forgiving razors may be hindering my progress in attaining really consistent good techniques buy allowing me to be lazy without paying for it dearly. I'm not saying I'm only going to use super efficient/aggressive razors for a given time to force myself to perfect my technique or pay with blood and razor burn but I wonder if such a venture would instill a sense of urgency to my learning curve. |
