Gillette Techmatic - Jayaruh - 07-31-2020

The Gillette Techmatic is from the 1960s. It sports a band blade that advances with the turn of a lever. It is also an adjustable razor. It was the first razor in space, I believe. It is also a fine shaver.

I believe it's what I shaved with in High School in the late 60s   Smile

I tried it when it first came out. I was not impressed at the time, but I really like it now.

How hard is it to find replacement blade bands?

You can find them on eBay. I think I got my techmatic in a lot and later found a band cartridge on eBay. The shave is very efficient and comfortable. They have 10 blades. Too bad they don't make them anymore. It is great to have for historical reasons, and it does give a great shave.

Nice one Jayaruh. I have the Schick version and like it!

I know that I had one at the time. I don't remember much about it so it couldn't have been a memorable shave.

I agree, it's interesting for the historical significance.

Did you feel the strange change in the gravitational pull ? Yep, me too. To be safe I grabbed my Techmatic Razor that generally just sits. Hey if it was safe enough for the Astronauts like Mike Collins of Apollo 11, it's safe enough for me. Safe enough and a decent shave but feels bulky and cheap. Still a cool piece of history to use once in a Blue Moon...........see what I did there. For those that don't know it's a band razor meaning it has a blade in a spooled band that when it gets dull, you just turn the knob to advance the blade to a fresh and sharper spot on the band. This model also has the adjustment knob for aggression which I just stick in the middle (Sorry Fuzzy) and roll with it. It isn't an aggressive razor by any stretch of the imagination. Just happens to be where I put it when I got it to see how long it lasts with not needing to advance it. How many shaves so far you ask ? I have no idea as I lost track of the few times I've used it and whether it's 3 or 4. Okay, back to the shelf/drawer or mug it will sit in till next eclipse...........................................time I pull it out. Have a stupid fun day Everyone !
