Clauss Automatic Safety Razor - Dave in KY - 04-12-2021
Have one of these on the way to me. It has some orginal blades but I think it should take a despined Gem style blade. At least that's my hopes. Anyone have any knowledge of these ? Will post pics when I get home from work.
After a little more googling I found out that yes a despined gem blade for work in it so I can't wait to get my hands on it and take it for a spin.

The Clauss Automatic is a very interesting razor.
It's the earliest TTO razor I know of.
There are two patent dates on the head:
Oct 15, 1906, which is this patent:
https://razors.click/patents/US838009/
Then there is Sept 28, 1905.
This is not a valid US patent date and I checked all non-US patents I could find, that were issued on that date.
None of them is for a razor.

Thank you, I had found when googling the patent date of 06. Anxious to receive it and hope the spring is good and I can give it some shaves.

Great razor. I have one. it will take de-spined Gem blades. nice efficient razor nice blade feel.

Yep, I came across and old post of yours which allayed my fears of whether it would take one. It also is coming with some original blades I'll check out but have never been happy with sharpness of vintage. We'll see. Thanks Tom
