Online Razor Shopping: Case vs. No Case - Old Sarge - 09-17-2021 Since purchasing my first razors online from the bay and seeing that I've thus far escaped the wrath of the Finance Committee Chairwoman despite her knowing their is a package inbound, I've of course spent time scouring both "E" sites for future additions to the family. This is the correct behaviour, right? (Note spelling use for our UK brethren) When y'all search online for a razor, how much do you consider finding a candidate with a case or without and why? What are some reasons that you would choose one over the other if both razors are generally in the same condition? Just asking for a friend!

RE: Online Razor Shopping: Case vs. No Case - Twelvefret - 09-17-2021 Bryan, I have several vintage cases that came with the razors and I love having them. For me they add something. That said, some cases are elusive. If the price was right, the lack of a case would not matter. Hope that helps. RE: Online Razor Shopping: Case vs. No Case - Dave in KY - 09-17-2021 Toby is correct. The box does nothing for the shave at all. Does that mean you don't want it? You are the one that needs to answer that. I have bought plenty without the box/case but if I have a chance to get a specimen in good condition in the case I prefer that. To decide if it's important to you, you need to decide if you are solely a shaver when accumulating or are you a collector. I started as a shaver and morphed into collecting as a byproduct. Cases weren't important to me in the beginning but got more a focus as time went by and my focus changed. The MAJOR focus for me will always be the shave. I keep nothing in my den that I don't shave with or can't at least once (at least I haven't found an exception to that yet) That said I do like finding a complete razor in original case if I can. That said if a razor that is hard to find comes available with no case or the wrong case I won't pass a chance to get it and perhaps never see another again. Now that I've walked you around in circles, the answer is.................you need to do what makes you happy and not me or Toby or anyone else. RE: Online Razor Shopping: Case vs. No Case - Twelvefret - 09-17-2021 I have a 1930’s Schick E type with one of those 20 year guarantee cases in very nice condition. For me, those are pretty cool. RE: Online Razor Shopping: Case vs. No Case - Whiterook - 09-17-2021 I prefer to have the cases if I can get them. I like to store the razors in the case to keep the salt air from getting to them. In the end though, it gives me pleasure to have a complete set, like having a rifle with matching serial numbers. RE: Online Razor Shopping: Case vs. No Case - Grassy - 09-17-2021 I agree, you don't need the box to shave but it is much better to have one, you have to keep the razor somewhere and if you are collecting it is part of the history. I also think a razor that still has it's box is likely to be in better condition, looked after or possibly kept without being used rather than used then discarded to a junk drawer where it can be scratched and damaged. Of course this is not always the case but it often is. RE: Online Razor Shopping: Case vs. No Case - Dave in KY - 09-17-2021 I use divided tackle containers wherever I find them cheapest for some of my uncased razors RE: Online Razor Shopping: Case vs. No Case - GAW9576 - 09-17-2021 I look at the case as a bonus as long as it's within the price I'm willing to spend. On razors that are not nearly impossible to find I usually look for a good usable razor for the best price I can find. That means that MANY of my razors are good user grade razors with no case. I picked up 3 Tupperware decided boxes to put razors in that came with no cases. They work wonderfully and are easily found on the E auction site. They also came in several colors which could help with organizing different types of razors. Some of the divided cells are big enough to fit multiple razors in which case I use a little bubble wrap to keep the razors separated. Another cool thing is that these are vintage Tupperware to keep my vintage and antique razors in.. |
