December Hauls 2021 - GAW9576 - 12-02-2021

I recently acquired this beautiful 1887 Kampfe Brothers Star from twhite. Tom honed the 3 blades for me before sending it out. He did a fantastic job. I'm glad I was able to add this beauty to my collection. It was my first shave with a wedge blade safety razor. I do believe I have another blade to add to the set. I'll have to search.

Another addition to my collection came from twhite's collection reduction today.
This is a 1909 Ever-Ready. I plan on shaving with it in a little bit.

I missed that he was selling that one. That razor has always gotten to me. I think he loaned it to me one many moons ago. Beautiful Lather catcher too!! Great snags all the way around.

Neither of them got posted for sale. I contacted him asking if he was planning on selling his Schick F. He said it was already gone but these were available. I believe you have/had the F of his.

An unusual delivery at 0830 today, vice the usual delivery time in the afternoon. I've entered a new rabbit hole!

I'm pretty sure this is an AutoStrop B1. Not the best image as the razor needs some TLC, but wanted to try and show the "Auto Strop" on the blade holder (is there a better term for the part of the razor that hold the blade?). For a while now I've been watching for my first AutoStrop. While the VC1 is pretty easy to pick up, I've been hoping to get an earlier model. When this guy showed up for $12.99 with free shipping...how could I not pull the trigger!? It's good that an old original blade is included so I can use it to double check when I modify a Gem blade. I recall Dave in KY talking about   the aluminum foil/baking soda technique on silver finishes. I guess I'm not sure if this is a silver finish or not.

I'll give you one guess what I'll be doing this weekend and also what I'll be shaving with next week!  Big Grin

So at another forum I got this Ever Ready set that I used to complete mine. I now have a better case with lettering intact, the correct Ever Ready strop, switched stroppers as this one had a better finish, the box and instructions. VERY happy with the final product now. Happy I was able to do it and break even so it didn't cost me anything to upgrade.

A nicer looking user grade AutoStrop B1 after a soak in hot water/dawn detergent and scrubbing with toothbrush/bristle brush! My non-expert opinion is this is nickel plated, not silver.

I think I'm going to need to tweak the tooth (proper term?) that holds the left-side blade stop/guide, right as you are looking at the second photo. It is lower than the one on the left side of the photo. When I push on the tab to raise the guard, if I don't push down on the blade...the blade only goes under the blade guide on the left of the picture. I have to slightly press on the blade for it to go under both blade guides. I'm concerned that this would cause to blade to not sit level. This is why I think I need to tweak the tooth on the right of the picture.

Sorry for some of the terms used in the description above. Does it sound like I've come to a good conclusion? Any recommendations on how to best bend the tooth on the right of the picture?

Thanks!
