What non-disposable blades razor gives you the closest shave? - Alex_UNLIMITED - 07-25-2024

I am unable to get a close shave with my C. V. Heljestrand Eskilstuna Kindal. I feel it is too mild, also I'm used to Feather blades on unmentionable head, which gives me an almost perfect bbs without irritation. What would be the most similar model to this combination, in order to get the closest shave possible?

Fuzzy was here.

This won’t be the advice you want to hear, but it’s the truth… how’s your technique?
Angle and pressure with good technique seem to fix most anything.
If your shooting for a bbs shave then I’d say make sure that your technique is ABSOLUTELY on point then blame the razor.
IMHO it’s almost always NOT the razor.
I know you won’t want to hear this, but hopefully it’ll help.

Give something like a Micromatic a try. Injectors like the Schick E2's are nice too.  I agree with the technique issue too.  Milder feeling razors give just as nice a shave as more aggressive feeling razors.

I have been censored, but I use a very aggressive double edge safety razor with ease, so I doubt the technique is the problem.

I'm asking for safety razors with non-disposable blades. As far as I know, it's not the case for both razors you mentioned.

Wilkinson Sword Empire - from the earliest sets onward these came with wedge type blades
Rolls Razor - Basically a Straight Wedge on a Stick
Early Star/Gem/ER Lather Catcher with a Wedge Blade

The issue here is the wedge blades used in all these razors (including your CV Heljestrand) need frequent
care - bevel set and honed - stropped before and after shaving.

You may need to find a hone masters that will re-set a bevel and edge on these small blades if you do not hone.

Of course the age old Straight Edge razor would be a logical choice for a non-disposable shaver.  Again, you need honing skills to maintain an edge or need to send it to a hone master.

Mine have been honed by a weel-known Italian maker, so I doubt this is the problem. I feel my razor is just too mild.

If you have someone that hones all the better.  I would suggest you seek out a 7 Day Set from Wilkinson sword.
It comes with a blade for each day of the week.  With seven well honed blades, it should serve your purposes.
They are also an adjustable head, so the aggression level can be dialed in using a knob at the rear of the head.
This could aid in your desire for a more aggressive razor.

Sorry. I did miss that. Have you tried the Rolls Razor?

Fuzzy Wchnu I texted you recently as I was thinking of ya and had someone on my channel ask as he was worried about you. I told him I thought you were just busy as that happens from time to time. Glad that was the case apparently. Your cell number change from what I have ? Glad you're apparently alive and well  Thumbsup
