I think you are onto something. My own observation. The whiskers at the base of my neck slant very close to the surface of the neck. Quite the angle. Generally razors that allow for a steeper angle (handle more parallel to the face than perpendicular - an often times unmentionable) do a better job as they slice the whisker in more of an across approach than down it's length.
I like more efficient razors. I feel less passes is better than more because each pass IMO micro traumatizes the skin. In the unmentionable world I commonly use on of the most efficient razors there is. I like it because while the shave is not the most comfortable (during the shave) the post shave period feels like I have damaged my face the least.
Over the years I have not been a fan of shave sticks for the simple reason I don't like rubbing a hard stick of soap on my face. However certain razors that behave as I just mentioned have me liking shave sticks because I have no lingering skin sensitivity because the razor didn't bother it. Basically I did not realize that I hated sticks because of the way some razors left my skin feeling.
For me it's not about bragging rights, it is about if my face feels good or not.
