Feeling the Burn - Proraso white

I was inspired recently by TOST member Whiterook’s pre-shave soap choice of Proraso white. I had a bowl of it sitting around. I hadn’t used it much as a shave cream because I find it hard on my skin and it tended to burn as I proceed through a shave. 

I liked Whiterook’s use as a pre soap so I gave it a try and it was ok. As a pre-wash it didn’t sit on my skin long - just lather and rinse - it only burned ‘a bit’. So I figured I would make a stick and enter it into my prep potions list.

Well…… I made a stick, wrapped it in foil, let it sit and harden for maybe 10 days or so and …… now I see why I get ‘the burn’! This isn’t just menthol at work here.

The Unveiling….. WTF?   Corroded the aluminum to bits! Maybe I’m not just some skin sensitive snowflake after all. I had no idea a skin product would do this!

   
   

YIKES!  This TOXIC substance is now in my garbage can.

Dear friend, you seem to have misunderstood my posts.  I use the special Proraso Pre-Shave cream, not the regular soap prior to shaving.

   


And yeah, I know Fuzzy don't use no pre-shave cream.

Yes I did think you were using the soap. A Pre-shave cream then. I still wouldn’t want to dip any aluminum razors in it.  Back to tried and true routine then with my non dissolving soap.

I’m glad I learned by accident that Proraso dissolves aluminum. My skin will forever thank me. My razors with aluminum components will too!
