That looks like a "66" and should not be opened I think.

I didn't look that close when I bought it. I found out that it opened when I got home. Apparently a previous owner clipped a tab. Not something I would do, especially to a razor in such good condition. The razor is in otherwise excellent condition. So for the $9 I paid for it I'm not exactly upset that it isn't supposed to open but now does.

Just make sure the blade is clamped tightly or it may shift off of the stops and be dangerous. They made them unopenable because opening them can reduce spring tension.
Boar brushes, brass razors, and hard pucks ARE traditional wet shaving. Everything else is modern day fluff for the girly men.

Both sides of the fork are supposed to push the bottom plate up to keep it tight, there also used to be a tab in the middle to prevent opening. It may be loose on one side.

Thank you for the heads up. I kind of already knew that but it doesn't hurt to be reminded. I shaved with it today (which I will post soon) at first because I hand loaded the blade and closed it (because I was using the Persona 74 that was in my Schick A). At first the blade did end up on top of the blade stops. But I inspected everything before trying to shave and caught the error and corrected it. Once corrected everything was good to go and it shaved wonderfully. By the way it's good to have you back here.
