Morning, Dave! Lovely image to start Williams Wednesday with! I've wondered about wooden bowls and how people use them. Do you load your brush from the bowl with the puck seated on the bottom and then when finished just rinse it out and let dry with the puck remaining inside? Curious mind!

Yes, exactly as you described Bryan. This was a NOS set I got and the puck is secure in the tub and doesn't move in it. Rinse clean and dry the outside of the bowl and set on shelf. Thanks

Williams Wednesday!
Cold Water Shave w/ Hot Water Lather
Pre: Hot Shower
Razor: Ever-Ready 1914 (Steampunkified)
Blade: Treet Carbon (2nd Use)
Brush: Yaqi Green Obsidian Two Band Badger
Lather: Williams Mug Shave Soap, Face Lathered
Post: Osma Alum Block, T.N. Dickinson’s Witch Hazel, Aqua Velva Classic Ice Blue, Nivea Sensitive Balm
A successful two pass shave; not the best, but also not a disaster. I still need a lot of work on face lathering Williams. Not sure if I did not load enough product, or what. Lather was dissipating quickly. I might need to just practice this on the side. I had finally got the hang of it when I was bowl lathering. Another thing to add to the list to work on.
Day 2 of the Treet carbon blade, but considering the poor lather I can't really use this shave to judge fairly. The positive take away is that I didn't hack up my face despite the challenges so my technique must be improving. On to Day 3!

It's been a really long time since I lathered Williams and I was bowl lathering exclusively then. However the disapating lather sounds simular to the issue I was having with boar brushes. With help I figured out I was using way to much water which is pretty much the same as not enough soap. I've had huge improvement in face lathering with a boar brush recently starting by loading a fair amount of soap nearly dry then adding in water as I lather. I've also been face lathering almost exclusively lately. Hope this helps.
PS. Great picture. I love the look of that razor.

Thanks Greg, I'll give that a try next week by aggressively shaking out the brush. I know you've been working hard on improving your use of boar brushes.
Even when I was bowl lathering the modern Williams, I found no matter what I did the lather always started out airy/bubbly and would settle down and smooth out only after a good bit of agitation. It was the same today, but a little more difficult to beat the airiness out of it when it is on my face, at least more difficult for me!

Ha. If you don't end up with a bloody nose or black eye you're not beating the lather aggressively enough.

Williams is easy. I face lather all soaps the same. Start with a damp brush. Not dripping just damp. Get on the cake of soap. No need to beat on anything. Just work the brush around and build a paste looking mixture. Then add a touch of water by dipping just the tips of the brush. Get to ye ole face and start working up a lather. Remember your not looking for butter cream. Add water as needed by just dipping the tips of the brush. Easy peasy.
Happy shaves to ya!
