SEptember
Pre - Pears Transparent Original Cold water Face wash
Brush - DS Cosmetics synth
Soap - Signature Soap Coria
Razor - Colonial General V2
Blade - Feather PB (7)
Post - Cold water Rinse, TC's infused Witch Hazel
Balm - Barts Balm Amber and Moroccan Jasmine Balm & Lotion
A/S - CK Be
A really nice end to SEptember, i think out of my AC razors the General V2 came out on top this month.
Today was a really nice shave, i only needed 2 passes, 1st WTG and the 2nd a mixed XTG/ATG pass with a little buffing for a very close comfortable finish.
Another mention has to go to the Signature soaps as they have performed flawlessly throughout the month.
Stay safe and enjoy your day All

Thursday's Shave
Cold Water Rinse
Palmolive Shave Cream
Jayaruh #414 Silvertip Badger
GEM Damaskeene
Personna GEM SS PTFE
CWR
Lustray Spice After Shave
The Palmolive Shave Cream lathered well with Jayaruh #414 Silvertip Badger. Two passes and touch ups with the GEM Damaskeene with a Personna GEM SS PTFE gave me a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse I finished off with Lustray Spice After Shave. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

I want to thank everyone for posting their SE SOTDs this month! It was a great month for me to start shaving with SE razors and y'all motivated me to keep going. While nowhere near Dave in KY, today was my 12th shave in a row and seventh in a row only using a SE razor.
You'll notice that my ER 1914 has a bit of steampunk look about it. There are before pictures on the September Haul thread HERE if you want to click over and take a look. It was the way worse off of the four razors. As I cleaned it, I came to realize that there was not going to be any surviving plating on the top cap, so I pulled out some Bar Keepers Friend and took it all the way down to brass. Now there is kind of a tri-color look with the back retaining it's plating and the handle looking like a patina'd silver.
Standard 2.5 pass shave. Another very comfortable, efficient shaver! I had a REAL good shave going after two passes and got greedy on the pickups. No weepers, just a little irritation. I need to learn my lesson! Will I ever learn my lesson???
While shaving I noticed that my blade would come out of alignment and no matter what I did I couldn't keep the one side to stay down (right side when looking at below photos). It didn't seem to cause me any problems with the shave. I did notice that there is a natural curve in the top cap so that when it is closed on the blade and you look at it head on, the middle of the cap is not on the blade. If others with a ER 1914 can see if theirs is the same? Any thoughts on how I might correct for this? Thanks!
Before Shaving
After Shaving (note right side is shifted up from the blade stop)

The blade alignment issue is do to the spring that pushes the blade forward when the top cap closes needing to be adjusted. Here is a picture of your razor from the September Haul thread. I added arrows to show what I'm talking about.
I think the razor looks very cool with the brass top. And congrats on the improving shaves.

Thank you so much, Greg! That's the ticket! With many of the other vintage SE razors having the tab flips up against the spine of the blade when the top cap is closed, I didn't think of those spings in the cap. Looks to be good to go and I'll shave with it again tomorrow to verify.

The caps on these things are there for a smooth surface to glide on your face, they don't hold the blade down. Most, if not all '14's have a gap in the middle, that's normal. The springs in the cap have gotten weak, allowing the blade to back off of the stops, you can gently pull the spring ends to rectify this, but they may break in the process. I have a dead '14 to prove it.
Boar brushes, brass razors, and hard pucks ARE traditional wet shaving. Everything else is modern day fluff for the girly men.

Thanks TobyC! That's a perfect explanation about the gap and that the cap doesn't function in the way I thought! After seeing GAW9576's suggestion, I did slightly pull the spring forward and when I put a blade in there was a proper amount of tension. I'll give it a shave tomorrow and see. Even with the blade issue, it still gave me a really good shave! Condolences on the dead '14!

Thanks, but I have two others now, and I may try to fix the dead one someday,... man that was years ago!
