Gem SS PFTE Blades - On Average, How Many Shaves?
#1
Today will be my tenth shave on my first Gem SS PFTE Blade (thanks Dave). I've not yet noticed any degradation in effectiveness. I know that there are many variables, but on average how many shaves do you expect to get out of one SS blade? And if you are a carbon blade user, how many for you?

I've fallen off from keeping track but @10 seems about right. I keep a few on hand so I don't worry about it........ Big Grin Keep in mind, everyone's beard, prep etc is different and so you will see differing numbers from different people. What works for you, works for you.

I usually go about ten shaves on SS or carbon, but I don't keep count, I let the blade tell me when it's done.
Boar brushes, brass razors, and hard pucks ARE traditional wet shaving. Everything else is modern day fluff for the girly men.

I think the one I am using now I've gotten maybe 9 or 10. I change it out between the  GEM collection. After shaving I clean and dry before laying aside somewhere safe. I wish the Schick lasted as long, but no complaints otherwise.

I have taken them over 10, however, they are cheap enough to stop while they are still good, it's just not worth a poor shave.
I am usually 10 and out.

Given that some men have beards and some don’t shave daily,
I would think these must be factors to consider as to blade life.

I have a beard and don't shave every day but I get about 8 to 10 per SS blade. I know some people get more. With carbon blades I usually only get 1 to 2. The major factor there is not using them frequently and having issues with storing them in a way that keeps them from corroding with the longer time between uses. For some reason I've only had a few shaves I've enjoyed with a carbon SE blade. I want to like them but just don't find them worth the effort.

I got fourteen great shaves from an PTFE stainless. I get one from a carbon because they rust too fast in the salt air here.

I get 100 Astra SP blades because I can share them with my son in law.
Since I use a variety of blade holders, I just get a few of the GEM at a time.

I just bought my first GEM razor, a Featherweight, and am excited to try it out today. I didn't have blades so I bought some PTFE coated blades on eBay. I only got 5 because I figure if I get 10 shaves per blade, it's going to be a while before I need more. I can also test whether I like the PTFE coated ones or want to try something else.

In any case, I always keep track so I'll make sure I count the shaves for each blade. I have pretty soft facial hair and also a round beard so only shaving my cheeks and neck. That means I should get many more shaves per blade I assume.
