The biggest problem I have with alternates is the smell and that includes the above, except SSS doesn't small bad I just makes one smell like a lady of the night. Big Grin Or how I would imagine they smell, having no experience with them.

Of course you haven’t. The SSS does work. I like a therma cell too. I guess I get to die from using DEET. I know it’s bad but it works.

I've heard SSS is popular with military personnel, ShadowsDad, but have not tried it.

The 100% DEET is weird, Wchnu.  It blocks the critters' protein receptors, and I've noticed mosquitoes land on my DEET-treated skin, but not recognize me as prey.

DEET works but it feels like it raises the temp' of my skin 20°. Not at all pleasant on an already hot day.

I don't remember the active chemical, but yet another chemical... Bullfrog also works and there is no skin heat sensation.

The only thing that worked better than DEET was DDT. That solved the problem wholesale, but with a LOT of collateral damage. Gotta break a few eggs to make an omelate they sell, well, not so much when it's Bald Eagles eggs and it's creeping up the food chain.

SSS and others work to an extent, but if you get to a place where they are thick, you really need something with at least a bit of DEET to keep from looking like a signer for the deaf.

I spent some time in the ER this morning. I could not get through to the surgeon, so I decided to make the trip. My bad leg was red, has been hurting, seemed swelled, and it was hotter than my good leg. They did an ultrasound to check for blood clots. That was OK. The doc diagnosed cellulitis, a bacterial infection of the skin, and prescribed two antibiotics for 10 days. I finally heard from the surgeon's office, and i will see him next Wednesday for a follow up. I am home and happy to be here and glad I decided to go to the ER. Wchnu , I hope you come out of that nose dive OK.

My son came up from SC today. We were going to have a meal with him and his family, but I had a temp of 101.3 and we didn't want to risk it with the gkids. He took this picture of my leg for me. No beauty contest for me.

Yikes. Take care buddy. I hope those antibiotics help. Most mess me up and I'm allergic to some.
