I got a tuck of those Gem Reversible Blades, but every one of them had rust on the edges. Bummer. That was a cool design feature for Gem. Yes I had pretty much the same experience with them. I tried resharpening too but it wasn’t too successful. As for a plastic bullet tip, I never got around to picking one up, so I will pass on shaving entirely today and see if the Guiding Eye can improve my Micromatic experience tomorrow! RE: SOTD - SEptember 2025 - Rocketman - 09-18-2025 SEptember - Day18 Guiding Eye Micromatic, GEM Ptfe, Stirling’s Creamy Coconut, Rubberset Canada Boar It was nice to play with this NOS set I have for today’s pics and also to read through the instructions. I used a different user grade razor for the shave and it wasn’t too bad this go around. I find that the Micromatic frames hold the blades very rigid which is the difference for me from a more flexible blade presentation. But it was a fun go at it nonetheless. All month too! ![]() Well, the Christy. I have a few of these razors in cases, some ads, nos blade packs, but I never have shaved with one. I have seen folks saying they use injector blades with success, but I tried once and found it to be a little fiddly getting a blade in place. And fiddling with, well, razor sharp small blades such as Schick, doesn’t appeal to my inner fingers much. So I passed. Until today - inspired on by Jayaruh’s choice for an SE. I wasn’t sure how the blade should seat so I placed a Christy blade in it to see how it should sit: Then after a few scary minutes I had the new Pella injector blade in place and fitting as per the Christy- and I still had all of my fingers intact. Yeah for small miracles. Ok. Razor loaded. I chose some Italian Fine soap - and it truly is fine I must say. Such fabulous cushion that I swear they must put feather essence in there! And a scent that just feels like luxury. Yum. But, not to be distracted…….I took long prep today because I had time : pre wash with a glycerin soap, heated steam towels x 2, and a lovely schwack of Fine. Ready to go! This setup was the worst blade/razor combo I have ever experienced. The blade gap between the injector apex and the razor teeth is so crammed that it would only give about a 30% reduction in each of two passes. I was so irritated I replaced it with a slanted german ww2 unmentionable and the slickest Japanese doubly unmentionable blade in my stockpile. Job done quick and easy. I don’t know what gives here. You can see in the pic the new blade is seated well in the razor. I never touched the edge getting it in despite the difficulty I found in installing it. Perhaps this is a grand case of YMMV, but this combo does not work in my estimation. RE: SOTD - SEptember 2025 - Jayaruh - 09-20-2025 Saturday's Cold Water Shave Cold Water Rinse Proraso White Shave Soap Jayaruh #4 High Mountain Badger Christy Safety Razor Personna Injector Blade CWR Humphrey's Witch Hazel Duru Cologne Well, I don't have any NOS Christy blades, so I am stuck with the Personna injector blade. It is a bit fidgety setting it in place, but once the blade and carrier are in the razor, success follows. The Proraso White Shave Soap was face-lathered well with the Jayaruh #4 High Mountain Badger Brush. Two passes and touch ups with the Christy Safety Razor and the Personna GEM SS PTFE Blade gave me a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse I finished off with Humphrey's Witch Hazel and Duru Cologne. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...
