I am making 2 horn handles right now and it just doesn't seem right to set a synthetic knot in a horn handle to me. So I've been trying to figure out what to use in them.
To big a brush?? I love my Maggards 28mm SHD. I did set it quite low to keep it as dense as possible though. It has pretty much the same bloom diameter as my Maggards 26mm standard density at a more standard loft.
I just set a 26mm mixed Badger Boar the other day and look forward to trying it soon.
I'm sure I've seen a picture of the Copper "Fluffy" industries handle but could you post another picture please and save me the searching.
BTW if either of you have any brushes that are truly to big for you to use let me know if you need to find them a new home.
My large knot is in a ferrule for the Rubberset and you ain't getting that I always use marine grade silicone so they're easy to change. If I pull t out, I'll let you know. Here's my Fluffy Industries brush....
Thanks for posting the pictures and I'm super jealous of that Unmentionable razor. You might want to edit that particular picture.
That's the brush I was thinking you were referring to but wanted to be sure. I will definitely have to make one like that sometime.

I was so busy yesterday I didn't get around to posting this fantastic shave. The J.A. Henckels Rapide razor performed flawlessly and the Mer Shavings Fougère Orange whipped up wonderfully with a Zenith Boar brush.

Cool brush. I've worked with that type of material if it's the Tru-stone turquoise. Not easy to work with but so worth it for the end results. Thsnks Greg! The website said it was Kingman turquoise which I believe to be from the Kingman mine in Arizona. It feels like stone to me, but I don't know much about such things.

I have 12 horse brushes and love them all. Zenith makes excellent brushes, with several handle styles. A quality horse knot has no smell and is very soft. They make very fine latherers! I prefer large brushes and have 5 Zenith horses with 26mm to 30mm knots. All Zenith horse brushes are of excellent workmanship with the softest knot I have plus the best latherer!! I have seen are black hairs and of the highest quality. My favorite horse brush is one I had custom made by Virginia Seng, it is a 30mm white horse brush. There is nothing as fine as well broken in boar brush which I have a large stable of, but horses are almost my daily drivers, which makes my horses real treats to use. My third favorite knot is synthetics with badger my least favorite-even though I have some classic badgers made by big name companies that were pretty pricey. Vie Long makes a very good horse brush although real small knots by my standards. Vie Long brushes are very well made and very reasonable in price. As with all things shaving, personal preferences rule.
That's a lot of horsies! (horse emoji here) I know there are many factors to consider and personal preference, but do you have a horse hair brush that is currently on the market that you would recommend for someone to start with? Thanks!

I've been on a kind of unplanned shaving sabbatical, with many things going on over the Thanksgiving holiday. It'll take me a hot minute to catch up on folks postings!
It's been a while since I've not shaved for three days, so I had four days growth. It was the first use of the Cyril R. Salter Indian Sandalwood shaving cream. Man does this stuff smell great! I have two Proraso creams in tubes, but this is my first cream in a tub. I debated for a while how I was going to load the brush and just decided to keep it simple and load the brush straight from the tub. I was a bit conservative with the load and for the second pass. It lathered well and did I say that it smells great! The shave went great and I even snuck in ATG on the cheeks on the second pass. Having had a good break to rest, my face felt great and I'm rearing to go again tomorrow!

Happy (belated) thanksgiving, I hope you all had a great weekend.
We don't have Thanksgiving here so we miss out on all that turkey. We have somehow managed import Black Friday lately and all we get for that is a lot of spam.
