SOTD - December 2021

However the real star of the show was the new to me 1887 Kampfe Brothers Star razor. This was my first shave with a wedge blade safety razor. Overall it was an excellent shave. Even though the seller did a great job honing the blades before sending the razor out, I could work on my stopping a bit to get the most out of them. The Williams lathered extremely easily with the Zenith Boar and the Aqua Velva was a fantastic finishing touch.

A wonderful photo! On this cold DecemBoar morning (25F and snowing lightly here in central Maine), the colors look warm and inviting. And that Zenith handle looks like a winner!

Thursday's Shave
[Image: zcws.jpg]

Cold Water Rinse
Proraso Sandalwood
Jayaruh 414 Silvertip
Unmentionable
Unmentionable blade
CWR
Granddad's Blend AS

The Proraso Sandalwood lathered well with the Jayaruh 414 Silvertip Brush. Two passes and touch ups with the Unmentionable Razor with an Unmentionable Blade gave me a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse I finished off with Granddad's Blend AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

DecemBoar 2nd

Soap: Stirling Sheep for the week
Scuttle: Crown King
Razor: Hydro-magic by Ever-Ready
Blade: sChick (12, like the Energizer bunny!!)
Brush: TGN 24mm boar in Trotter Handcrafts Coho

This was the first use of the brush, other than 8-10 hand lathers to start breaking it in. It only lost 5 hairs on the first pass. Dave in KY, is the a limit before it would be banished from your shave space?!

The brush had both a great face feel and the handle felt perfect in my hand. I did have to reload with a few swirls off the puck again, as the lather was looking too thin. But it sure was slick! Is it my imagination or is the soap somehow different with a boar?!

Banishment is handled on a case by case basis with multiple considerations which includes but is not limited to the current state of mind and mood of the user  Big Grin

I'd like to see if they are based on 1st or 2nd Gen FWs. Of course if you can ID it as one or the other that would work but we all LOVE good pictures of beautiful razors.

Here is a picture of the cap as requested. I'm assuming this is a second Gen based on the ridges on the thumb tab? I'm no expert but it would very interesting g to know.

Definitely 2nd Gen. Thanks for the photo.

That is indeed one special razor that you were waiting on! And what a beautiful image, Greg. Me thinks you need to kick off the December Haul thread with some close up shots!!!

I shall oblige as soon as I get a chance to take more photos.

Thank you. I've really been enjoying exploring ways to make my photos more appealing. The Zenith is a joy to use. A beautiful patina is beginning to develop. I've seen pictures of these handles with fantastic patina which was one of the things that led to its acquisition. Also I know the knot will only get better with use as well.

In case anyone in central Maine was wondering, currently 68 and sunny with projected high of 70, about 20 miles due south of the ATL airport. Not meaning to rub salt in any wounds...for sure not rock salt as y'all will likely need it soon!  Big Grin
