I keep trying to like boar brushes but for some reason the lather always falls apart very quickly compared to my badger brushes. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. The brush feels fine when lathering although I think my badgers have more backbone. The boars I have all seem floppy to me.
Ooh La La...very cool shot of your ER 1914! For a second, I thought it was either gold plated or highly polished brass.
I get what you're saying about boar brushes. My Semogue SOC boar doesn't have much backbone, so I find myself mostly painting. However, the Omega Pro 49 boar is nothing but backbone and I've really got to work to get some splay. I'm going to pick up a Semogue 1305 on my Connaught Shaving order, maybe this weekend. I see Fuzzy using it all the time and I think it is his favorite brush. I kind of want boar brushes to be my go to for some odd reason.![]()
So, I soak my natural fiber brushes in water for a bit prior to lathering, do you do the same? I was reading that some folks say with the boar brushes if you want to improve backbone, either don't soak at all or only soak about half-way up the knot. I haven't tried this yet, but it sounds interesting.
Mabey I'll give the soaking just half the brush a try. I always heard you had to soak a boar for a while before use. Maybe I misheard misunderstood or was misinformed or in some other way mistaken.

Consecutive Daily Shaves - # 1,095
Well 3 years straight of consecutive daily shaves without missing a day................probably more but that's since I started documenting/counting. It's a mile marker but not really a big deal as it is enjoyable start to every day. Did a video just as a marker for it and to show the Ever Ready Set and "Spalted" Brush. The Maggards 26mm 2 Band was a joy 1st use and not a single shed hair. It's a bargain and I need more of them as backups for future brushes. Onto the Hillside with the chainsaw again today..............after some coffee and rum cake. Have a swell day everyone !!
The Maggards knots are wonderful. If you haven't tried one yet do yourself a favor and pick up one of the SHD bulb knots I have the 28mm and a 26mm standard 2 band. A 26mm SHD would be a great size too.
Also be safe out there with the chainsaw.
