Something that comes to mind is the possibility that your particular J is damaged in some way. Injectors rely on the bends to be the right shape for the clamping force and blade exposure to be correct. The head can get bent out of alignment fairly easily if they are mistreated and that can cause difficulty in loading blades along with poor shaves. I have several G types and one of them is definitely more difficult to load and is not as good a shave for me. If I look at the heads, the shape near where the two pieces of bent metal meet are ever so slightly different. It's not something you're likely to notice unless you are comparing two of the same razor. I don't think there's any way I could bend them back into the correct shape so it's more or less a dead razor. All this is to say that you may want to try a "known good" J from someone to see if that is possibly true in your case.
