SOTD - December 2021
For some unknown reason (temporary insanity?) after having such a wonderful injector shave, I decided to go back to the unmentionable that I've been trying to improve with. No luck and I am going to put that thing away for a while to see if maybe I have better luck in the future. The shave was close and blood was drawn leading to some pretty intense irritation but a near BBS shave. The Clubman soap and aftershave were the highlights of the shave.

I was looking at those the other day at Your Shaving. Do you have the 50/50 or Extra Soft horse knot? I'm assuming the 50/50 has some soft and firm hairs, kind of like the Semogue Mistura is 50/50 with boar/badger. How do you like it?

I am impressed with this unmentionable, it seems to suit me perfectly. I need to run some sharper blades through it as i am finding it very forgiving. At no time does it indicate its going to bite, a very comfortable shaver.

A face full of soft badger, 2 passes XTG and ATG then a nice post shave for a very nice face feeler- what's not to like.

Stay safe and enjoy your day all

You have an enviable SE collection, my friend. I always love to see what you're shaving with given so many excellent choices. Do you have a system for choosing what to use or just whatever you feel like that day?

Rotations!  Sunday, Schick A-I.  Monday  ASR razors. Tuesday and Wednesday, Unmentionable. Thursday, Schick J,K,M,N,O.  Friday, Schick L models and AutoStrop. Saturday, Unmentionables.

Of course, I don't always stick to those, but each razor gets a shave every few months.

Thanks for the info. It wasn't easy to load the old Schick injector but I made it work. I don't think I scraped any of the blade edges in the process but I guess I'll find that out eventually. If the blades turn out to be something special then it will be worth doing this every time.

DEcemBoar!

Cold Water Shave w/ Hot Water Lather
Pre - Aloe Vera Glycerin Soap Face Wash, Noxzema Cream as Pre Shave
Razor - Unmentionable (British)
Blade: Unmentionable (4th & Final Use)
Brush - Semogue SOC Boar in Taj Resin
Lather - Mike’s Natural Soap (Orange, Cedarwood & Black Pepper), Face Lathered
Post - Generic Reformed Alum Block, T.N. Dickinson’s Witch Hazel, Clubman Pinaud Lime Sec EDC, Nivea Sensitive Balm

Surprisingly had a mighty fine two-pass shave, considering I had my laptop on the counter next to me with one eye trying to watch LFC vs. NUFC...YNWA! Thumbsup This fourth shave using Big Guy Chubby Checker Unmentionables, the British royalty, not senior edition. Super efficient shave, super smooth even with the fourth and final use on the unmentionable blade. As the four razors, for the most part, increased in weight, it's something to wonder about how important the weight of the razor means to the efficiency of the shave. Although, as a counterpoint, I've gotten excellent shaves from very light razors (e.g. Triceratops 3D printed, British Gem 1912 w/ aluminum handle, ER 1914). So there must be more to it than the weight.

I almost didn't load enough of the Mike's Soap for the second pass, just barely made it without having to go back to the tub. Had to squeeze the last of the lather from the knot to get by. Love Mike's and the Orange, Cedarwood and Black Pepper scent always smells good.
