Burham Safety Razor
#1
I found this Burham Safety Razor on eBay. Made in the USA, it indicates a July 6, 1909, patent date. First pictures are from the auction.

These next pictures are after I opened the package.

Then I got to work welcoming it into my den. I got it cleaned up with some Flitz Polish. That stuff is really good.

Then, I scanned the directions. I really like having original directions. I am looking forward to giving this razor a try.

Nice find!
Here's the patent:

And here is my Burham:

The Burham blades are not the same size as GEM blades.
You can either use GEM blades with or without the spine.
Here are some measurements:

Burham blade: 38.72mm wide 18.97mm deep
GEM Blade: 38.86mm wide 19.62mm deep
GEM despined: 17.32mm deep

So you can use a normal GEM blade and it will be very aggressive or a despined one and it will be very mild.
I prefer the despined blade. A normal GEM is not comfortable.

I just had an idea:
You could put some tape on the back of a despined GEM blade to add 1.65mm or thereabouts to the depth of the blade.
I must give that a go.

Very nice. I think it was your Burham that inspired my search for mine. Mine came with one blade that I cleaned and sharpened. I will try it for the first shave, scheduled for Monday. After that, I will go to a despined Gem with the tape unless the Burham blade works out.

I had my first shave with this Burham Safety Razor from 1909. I used the original blade that I had touched up. It was a little tuggy, so it needs a little more work. No cuts, nicks, or abrasions. The Eskimo Tuxedo Shave Soap was very cold.

That's a very cool minimalistic looking razor.
I love the look of that razor stand Jayaruh. Did you make that?

I did give this a go and it's a non-starter.
Once you put enough tape onto the back of the despined blade to add 1.65mm, the back of the blade is too thick to fir the razor.
Pity.
I'm not sure a 3D printed solution would work either.

Guys gem blades can be modified to work perfectly in burham razors. I posted about it on tost2 I think. What you do is remove spine. Open it up a little. Set the gem blade beside the burham blade and slide the spine on the gem blade until it matches the length of the burham. Then take diagonal pliars to put two crimps on each side of the spine to hold it in place. You crimp at the tops and bottoms of the little half moons on the side of despined gem blades.
