GEM Junior vs Gem Junior Bar
#1
I'm new to GEM razor and am trying to figure out which ones to get. I've read good things about the GEM Junior Bar. And thought I'd get one of those. But it dawned on me that the GEM Junior and Gem Junior Bar are two different razor. The first being a variation of the 1912 and the second being a lather catcher that can accommodate both wedge blades and newer GEM style blades.

Are there any similarities in how these shave or is the Junior nomenclature the only thing they have in common?

Pictures for reference. Not mine.

They feel different and handle different, but the blade and the angle that you give it is what shaves you, so the shave is the same.
Boar brushes, brass razors, and hard pucks ARE traditional wet shaving. Everything else is modern day fluff for the girly men.

I find the Jr. Bar to feel milder. It is a favorite of mine. Neither disappoint. The Jr. Bar with a wedge is completely different though.
Happy shaves to ya!

In what way is it different?

I have the barless lather catcher and a few of the 1912's, I think the blade is farther back in relation to the comb giving it less blade feel. Just get one of each and decide for yourself.

If I was only going to buy one, I would go for the Jr. Bar. It is just so beautiful and handles very well. I would look for one with the metal handle too. I have several with different handles and rarely use the wooden handle. But there are plenty of affordable Gem Jr's out there so I would definitely recommend getting both.
